Mrs S Radford
Class Teacher Hello! I’m Mrs Radford, and I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the team at Little Sutton this year.
Having had a previous career in forensics, I retrained to be a teacher completing my Primary Education with QTS degree when my children were young. Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the pleasure of working across a range of year groups in schools throughout Cheshire West. I love bringing learning to life, sharing a giggle with the children and creating those special moments when something suddenly clicks! I believe that children learn best when they feel confident to share their thoughts, explore new ideas and learn from one another. Through meaningful class discussions and plenty of opportunities to think, question and discover, we build our knowledge together in a warm, welcoming environment where mistakes are celebrated as part of the learning journey and every success matters.
I’m especially thrilled to be sharing the classroom with the amazingly kind and caring Mrs Thomas. Together, we’re looking forward to creating a nurturing, happy and supportive environment where every child feels valued, encouraged and inspired to be the very best they can be.
Outside of teaching, I love to spend time with my family, going to the gym and setting myself crazy sporting challenges such as marathon’s and hyrox.
I can’t wait to get started and share lots of laughter, learning and lovely memories with our Little Sutton children!

Mrs S Dutta
Hello! I’m Mrs Dutta, and I have been working at Little Sutton Church of England Primary School since 2020. I joined the team as a Teaching Assistant (TA) and, in 2023, I was delighted to be appointed as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).
I am fortunate to work with children across all year groups, and yes, I do know everybody’s names !
In school, I particularly enjoy teaching the creative aspects of the curriculum, where I can see children using their imagination, developing their skills, and feeling proud of what they have achieved.
I also love using my creativity to transform empty display boards into vibrant showcases of the children’s work. It is won-derful to see the children admiring and celebrating each other’s achievements.
Outside of school, I enjoy travelling, photographing famous landmarks, and baking sweet treats for family and friends.
Welcome To Merlin Class

Autumn 1
This half term, our overarching topic is ‘Home’! We are excited to explore our local area and discover more about the history of Ellesmere Port. In History and Geography, we will learn about the important role canals have played in Ellesmere Port, exploring how they were used in the past and how they have changed over the years. We will enjoy comparing then and now, discovering how our local area has developed over time.
Our learning will be supported by our lovely focus text, ‘Troll Swap’, in English. We will meet Timothy and Tabitha and explore how they feel about their homes. Through this story, children will develop their writing skills, focusing on expanded noun phrases to add detail to their descriptions and using the conjunctions ‘and’ and ‘because’ to extend their sentences.
In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of place value, focusing on two-digit numbers and exploring both standard and non-standard partitioning. We will also practise counting in 2s, 5s and 3s, building our confidence with number patterns and multiplication skills.
It promises to be a wonderful first half term filled with exciting learning, exploring our local community and discovering what makes a place feel like home!
PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays, so please ensure children come to school dressed in their PE kits on these days.

Homework
‘Strive for 5’ reads per week. Please record these in children’s reading records and bring them to school on Friday’s, for accelerated reading assessments and book changes.
Spelling Frame Children will be set weekly spellings, to practice at home. We’ll have spelling tests in class on Friday’s
Expectations
- P.E will be on Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays. On both days children are to come in wearing their school uniform. They should bring with them a plain white t-shirt and back shorts/joggers/leggings and trainers are appropriate. Please no football kits, branded clothing and hair should be tied up.
- There is no need to bring in a snack for your child in the morning as school can provide some fruit. However, if you choose to do so, we encourage a healthy snack such as a piece of fruit or veg. Toast can also be bought.
- Can you please bring a water bottle in for your child, with their name on so they can stay hydrated throughout the day. We do encourage water only.
- It is also very helpful if all your child’s clothes can be labelled with their name- especially jumpers!
How you can help at home:
- Read, read and read some more! This will really help your child’s development across all areas of the curriculum. Please ‘strive for 5’ times a week. Please sign their reading diaries accordingly and have your child bring them in every day.
- Please complete the spelling frame task set each week online.
- Counting- there are so many opportunities at home to count. e.g.- counting objects, playing games, timing an activity
- Telling the time- in Y2, children are expected to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. Any consolidation of o clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past would be beneficial.
- Encourage your child to undress and dress themselves including buttons/ shoe laces/ zips
