Mathematics equips pupils with the uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways.

Mathematics is integral to all aspects of life and with this in mind we endeavour to ensure that children develop a healthy and enthusiastic attitude towards Mathematics; an attitude that will stay with them to encourage enquiring minds, entrepreneurial thinking and economic wellbeing.

First4Maths

At Little Sutton Church of England Primary School, we have started a new adventure with First4Maths.  First4Maths is a complete primary mathematics training and planning package that empowers teachers to adapt teaching to the needs of their children and improve outcomes for all. It is designed to spark curiosity and excitement and help nurture confidence in maths, with plenty of room in the curriculum to talk about maths and explore concepts in depth.  We use physical resources to bring abstract concepts to life and help deepen mathematical understanding.  

Times Tables Rock Stars

In KS2, children become ‘rock stars’ as they compete to learn their times tables.  The times tables are at the heart of a large proportion of the maths curriculum and rapid recall of the tables facts, gives the children the confidence and skills needed to problem solve with division, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio, area…..the list goes on.
