    Mr S Walker

Class Teacher Welcome to Peregrine Class! My name is Mr Walker, and I’m excited to be teaching Year 6 this year.
I completed my PGCE in Primary Education with QTS at the University of Chester, alongside a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science and an MSc (Hons) in Sport Management. My passion for coaching and making a positive difference in people’s lives inspired me to pursue a career in teaching.
Having taught in two schools across Cheshire West, I have experience across four year groups in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. In recent years, I have been teaching in Year 6 and supporting pupils as they grow in confidence, develop independence and prepare for secondary school. It is rewarding to see them become responsible young people who embody our school values and are ready to flourish in the wider world.

I am excited to work alongside Ms Sookoo to create a warm, inclusive classroom where every child feels valued and encouraged to achieve their best. Through mutual respect, positive relationships and high expectations, we aim to develop confident, resilient and independent learners who embrace challenges and learn from their mistakes.

I love bringing the curriculum to life and making learning meaningful through real-life experiences, educational trips, residential visits and opportunities such as visits to Chester Cathedral. These experiences broaden children’s horizons, develop new skills and create lasting memories.

Outside the classroom, I am passionate about PE and sport and have previously coached athletics. I enjoy running, taking part in races and exploring the outdoors. Whenever possible, I love travelling and walking in the beautiful Lake District.

Autumn 1

We have an exciting first term ahead of us in Peregrine Class. Our first English book, as part of ‘Pathways to Write’ will be ‘Star of Fear, Star of Hope’ by Jo Hoestlandt. The book is set in occupied France during World War II and tells a powerful story of friendship, fear and hope.

In Maths, we use the Power Maths scheme, which focuses on problem solving and key areas of learning from the National Curriculum. It challenges our mathematical thinking and displays it in real life situations. We also use TT Rockstars to practise our timetables and take on different challenges. The unit for this term is place value within 10,000,000.

As historians we will be learning about the impact of World War II on British people. We will identify the causes of World War II and the different phases in the Battle of Britain. In geography lessons, we will learn how land use in the local area and around the country impacted decisions and outcomes during WW2. Our theme extends into computing and science in which we will explore computers by uncovering the heroes of Bletchley Park and electrical components through the lens of WW2 equipment such as radios and torches.
